TAGANA-AN – On December 18, 2020 Tropical Depression Vicky with international name “Krovanh” landed in the Philippines affecting several cities and municipalities including Tagana-an, a municipality of Surigao del Norte. Inundated with flood and harsh winds, 176 families were forced to evacuate the comfort of their homes. Luckily, no deaths were reported in the municipality but homes were left in wreck.
After two months, the staff of Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go aided the victims of the typhoon with relief goods and a cash assistance worth 3,000 pesos through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). Included are some over-the-counter medicines and vitamins, masks and face shields.
Validation of these victims were conducted beforehand to ensure credibility of claims and only those who were truly affected in the three identified barangays; Azucena, Aurora and Talavera can avail of the assistance.
In his pre-recorded message, Sen. Go urged to be strong and united despite of their horrible experience. Municipal Mayor, Cesar B. Diaz, Jr., thanked the President and Sen. Go for sending help and encouraging camaraderie among Minadanaoans.
The program was facilitated by the Mayor Diaz and ably assisted by the active and beautiful Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer (MSWDO) Mrs. Nenita Plaza and staff. In attendance were Committee Chairman on Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform, Sangguniang Bayan Member Maxuel E. Jusain, and Barangays Captains of Azucena, Aurora, and Talavera, Mrs. Evelyn Plaza, Mr. Ruel Laroa, and Mr. Reden Plaza, respectively. Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer (LDRRMO) Mrs. Rosemarie Buico and staff was also present making the distribution of relief goods smooth and safe.
Among the National Government Agencies (NGAs) in attendance were; Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Acting Provincial Director, Ms. Catalina Tacubao, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Surigao del Norte Office Labor and Employment Officer II, Ms. Arciazel Lagrama, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) SDN Provincial Office Business Coucilor, Ms. Margie Revil, National Housing Authority (NHA) Senior Community Support Services Office, Cereza Mae A. San Pablo and representative from DSWD Administrative Assistant III, Ms. Donna Vliess Jarbadan. Each representative gave a brief message on program-specific interventions for typhoon victims.
Wrapping up the program, Sen. Go gave away 4 of each electronic tablets, pair of shoes, and bicycles that made the people merrier as they go home. Senator Bong Go goes around the country visiting the displaced, disadvantaged, and poverty-stricken individuals reassuring people that the government is always ready to respond and serve.
