TAGANA-AN – On August 12, 2021, Hinatuan Mining Corporation (HMC) Nickel Asia Corporation (NAC) donated an amount of 5 million pesos for the construction of the first phase of a new Rural Health Unit (RHU) building in close partnership with Municipal Mayor Hon. Cesar B. Diaz, Jr. and Municipal Health Officer (MHO) Dr. Benjielita P. Notada.

The total project cost for the building is 15 million and HMC-NAC committed a total of 10 million pesos for the realization of the infrastructure. The remaining 5 million is set to be released on the first quarter of 2022, said Dr. Oliver Dennis O. Lao, Health Physician of HMC.

The new building will be constructed under the purview of the municipality and is expected be constructed by next year.

The initiative is part of the company’s Social Development and Management Program plus Corporate Social Responsibility (SDMP+CSR). The huge amount was approved by the head office of the company and was realized through teamwork, Dr. Lao said.

The new Rural Health Unit addresses the poor access of the Tagana-anons to health services. Having the building will mean that the travel time to the nearest health care institution will be cut-off by one hour, mitigating the contraction of Covid 19 and ultimately, an improved health care system.

When asked if this will be the last partnership of the company with the agency, “This is just the beginning!” quipped Dr. Lao. HMC-NAC’s mantra is teamwork – always looking for a way to help the stakeholders and work together to make it possible.
